Our objective at Shree Hindu Mandal Hospital is to provide optimim quality care at an affordable cost to all. We provide our patients with a 24 hour out-patient center which includes a 7 bed casualty/emergency ward, x-ray services, laboratory, and pharmacy. We also have a total of 60 beds for our in-patient services which include maternity, neonatology, medical, surgical, and paediatric specialities.

Shree Hindu Mandal Hospital, Dar es Salaam during the year 2008/9 has following objective/goals:-

OBJECTIVE

  • To continue improving the general environment of the Hospital so as to offer better facilities to the clients attending the hospital.
  • To further improve the quality of health services being provided to the clients.
  • To further improve the quality of health services being provided to the clients.
  • To monitor and review the revenue so as to ensure sustainability and capital investment.
  • To continue developing and implementing Management Information System for laboratory, medical stores, pharmacy and in-patient billing.
  • To continue support and strengthening of the Hindu community hospital/clinics at Mwanza, Arusha, Moshi, Tanga and Bukoba.
  • To start construction of the New Hospital Development at Nyanza/India Street corner.
  • To start and complete construction of the boundary wall at our Ocean Road Plot.
  • Development of VCT Unit on Sewa Street.

ACHIEVEMENTS

  • The Hospital has a “Maintenance team” which does significant work in house thus controlling the costs.
  • A new upper gastro intestinal endoscope has been purchased to replace the ole non-repairable unit.
  • The 2-D Echocardiography machine has been ordered to replace the old one which has been out of use for past two years.
  • The management has made efforts to match the remuneration with that of other private health providers and public sector. However, this has not been adequate.
  • The Hospital has made every effort to maintain competitive price structure so as to be able to ensure that the services are affordable for majority of the clients.
  • The basic principle of “quality care at an affordable cost” has to be maintained.
  • The Management Information System (MIS) has been installed in the pharmacy and medical stores.
  • A full time IT engineer has been employed to oversee the 11 department.
  • Shree Hindu Mandal Hospital Dar es Salaam has already supported strengthening of Hindu Union Hospital, Mwanza.
  • This year we have been successful in obtaining some funds for renovation of Hindu Clinics in Tanga and Moshi (for HIV/AIDS clinic)
  • Shree Hindu Mandal, Dar es Salaam has submitted project proposal for development of Hospital complex on the Corner Plot (India/Nyanza Street) to various potential donors.
  • AIDSFOND – which is an NGO in Netherlands in association with PHSRMACCESS was interested in developing additional clinic spaces fore people with HIV/AIDS.
  • Shree Hindu Mandal incorporated that component within the project and fund raising was done in Amsterdam, Netherlands in June 2007.
  • The fund-raising dinner was attended by Dr. Kaushik Ramaiya and Euro 650,000.00 were collected for the project which will cover ground and first floor including construction finishing and equipments.
  • Ocean Road Plot, The Ocean Road Plot has also had some activities.
The Hospital obtained funding from FHI/USAID to develop VCT unit for people with HIV/AIDS on the ground floor of the Mandal property on Sew Street.

The unit is already operational.

Shree Hindu Mandal Hospital, Dar es Salaam has received funding based on project proposals submitted to Rapid Funding Envelope (RFE) Round 2 and Round 3. The Hospital has also been successful in securing RFE Round 4 for Hindu Union Hospital in Mwanza. In addition, the Hospital is also recipient of Global Fund Round 3 under AMREF. Last year the Hospital also received funding under FHI/USAID/Deloitte QUICK START project for expanding our VCT site and training health care providers from private sector in management of HIV/AIDS

All the projects are related to developing “HIV/AIDS Centre of Excellence” and to provide care and treatment to people living with HIV/IDS.

With support of the above mentioned projects, the Hospital has been able to establish expanded laboratory services with comprehensive diagnostic services, endoscope unit (upper GI, colonoscopy and bronchoscope), new Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT) and CTC clinic, training room resource room and date management room. The project has also enable the Hospital to install Laboratory Management Information System.
