SHREE HINDU MANDAL HOSPITAL

GOVERNANCE:
During the year 2011/12 there has been significant changes taking place in the governance of the Hospital.

The Hospital has also been undergoing organizational restructuring with more professional staff being hired to manage core functions: human Resources, General Administration, Compliance, etc.

All staff except the Senior Management Team have undergone “Team Building” training workshop. The objective of this workshop was to create a sense of belonging for the staff and motivate them to work as a team for the benefit of the client (patient in this case).

The Hospital reorganization is not yet complete and changes are being made slowly so as not to disturb or disrupt the service provision.

BUSINESS PLAN :
The Hospital was fortunate to receive two students from Wharton Business School, USA mid last year (with kind support from Dr. Jeff Blander) who spent two weeks with the Hospital, developing business models for the coming years.

Together with the Hospital Management, various business models were discussed and the following were deemed to be a priority:
  • Establishment of state of art laparoscopy Unit
  • Renovation of the Maternal & Child Health Department
  • Renovation of the Emergency/Casualty Department
  • Establishment of state of art Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
  • Establishment of private rooms on the first floor of the Old Wing
Each of the above mentioned models was then thoroughly analyzed and its cost effectiveness, rate of return and benefit to the society/community being served was assessed.

NEW WING & QUALITY OF SERVICES:
The Hospital management is making every effort to improve the quality of service being provided to all its clients.

The establishment of the new wing of the Hospital, number of clients attending the out-patient clinics has increased significantly. The quality does not include only the Hospital environment and ambience but also includes “people” serving the clients/patients.

Customer care has to be optimum to ensure that each and every client attending the Hospital is satisfied. Health care providers (paramedical and medical staff0 also need re-training and refresher training. The Hospital Administration has already initiated continuous medical education programs for the nurses and doctors. When opportunity arises, hospital staff also participates in the training workshops conducted by MoHSW.

The number of visiting consultants has also increased significantly depending on the client’s need for service.

The Hospital also conducts once a month Mortality meeting to discuss all deaths that have occurred in the hospital. Number of patients treated increased to 110,000 during 2011.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH ACTIVITIES :
The Hospital participated in several Community outreach activities which included:
  • Community health screening at Dar Brotherhood Grounds
  • Community health screening in partnership with ROTARY CLUB of Oysterbay at Pugu Chanika village and Bagamoyo.
  • Health screening for members of Shree Hindu Mahila Mandal
  • Assisting the flood victims in Jangwani with Ambulance services
  • Assisting Mbagala bomb blast victims with ambulance services, provision of health care providers and blood donation camp.
WAY FORWARD:
During the year 2012/13, in addition to upgrading the environment in the old hospital building, efforts are being made to obtain funding from potential donors and well-wishers to initiate construction of remaining six floors in the new building.
